The Finger Lakes Model Railroad Club will be hosting a free-mo layout at the
Syracuse Train Fair, November 3rd & 4th at the New York State Fairgrounds. The
show is open all day Saturday & Sunday, with setup starting at 1pm Friday
afternoon. This is one of the larger train shows in the northeast - 150,000
sf of space, more than 50 layouts of every scale, and more than 100 vendors.
Plus, our host, the Central New York Railroad Historical Society, has their
static exhibit open, located right out the back door next to the extremely
busy CSX Chicago mainline.

We had a great response to the setup last year; those that were there will
remember hearing "…But it doesn't run in circles!" over & over again! The
concept was very well received, so I want us to have beautiful layout, as
well as one that operates well. With that said, modules *must* be compliant
to be included – electrical, track, DCC, and construction standards must be
adhered to. Scenery should consist of at least a base layer, ie ballasted
track and something to cover the foam - * no great plains of blue & pink!* A
smaller setup with knock-out scenery & trackwork is much more interesting to
see than a gargantuan setup that's 20% complete with no scenery.

If you're interested in attending, let me know. We'll have the layout up
and running by late afternoon Friday depending on when everyone arrives. If
you need to arrive Saturday, we'll do our best to work that into the
design. We'll need to have the module on-site by 8am to have the layout
running for a 10am opening. Thanks for considering this – it's a fun event,
hope to meet some more of you this time around!

Jered, the following modules will be available:

Oil Terminal -- 8ft long
TWO double track curves, 45 degree
48 inch Mini-Mo, 2-1 transition
36 inch Mini-Mo, 2-1 Transition.

One of the Double track curves does not currently have scenery, but I hope to accomplish something before the meet. Otherwise, it will not be present (if it is present, it could be used as a demo model... maybe scenery clinic?).

Also, a Digitrax DB150 will be present, as will a Digitrax Zephyr.

I can also assist with CAD planning, should you need my skills.

I plan on bringing my three rebuilt ex-RITMRC industrial modules, but I
probably won't be able to show up until Friday night after work. If RITMRC
is going and they have space for them, it may be possible for me to send my
modules with them for setup.

Thanks, Mike. I'll give it a couple weeks here and see if any other takers pop up on the list. I know all 5 Geneva modules, and Dave L's modules, will be present. Keith's oil dealer may be there if we get the year-long trackwork project done in time.

FYI, in case anyone has anything available, you can camp overnight on the grounds for $18. I doubt you'd want a tent there in early November, but if any of you have access to a camper, there's several other folks from out of town that stay in theirs. Could save a bundle in time and gas!

Luther - Lets get some ballast on yours, I'd love to see them there! I'll even spring for a couple bags!

I think luther was wanting to replace the atlas switches on his modules with handlaid turnouts.

In any case, I am also willing to assist with manpower, should you need assistance for syracuse (or tiger tracks for that matter).

You know where to get ahold of me :)

Syracuse Update

Postby Jered » Thu Sep 27, 2007 7:52 am

Or lack thereof.....

We're all confirmed for the show, but they don't know the size of the space we'll have yet. This happened last year, as they worked us into a space that would otherwise be difficult to use. I asked for a linear format again this year, but we'll see what they give us in a couple weeks.

How are modules coming on your end(s)? The yard, scenicking on others, etc? Just checkig in - 5 weeks to go!
