Who are these places named after?

Postby Otto Vondrak » Wed Aug 03, 2005 2:56 pm

If you look at a schematic of the railroad, you'll notice that many locations carry names of past and present members of the railroad. Here's a re-cap of some names you may not be familiar with:

CP WOLFF - Named after our first treasurer and electrician: Joseph N. Wolff (EE '01?).

CP MOORE - Named after our third president, and second electrician, Joshua T. Moore (IT '01?).

CP ROEDER - Named after our third secretary and sometimes electrician and computer technician, Todd N. Roeder (CS '02?).

Alexander - The freight house located at Alexander is an old Alexander Scale Models kit. In real life, Alexander is also halfway between Rochester and Buffalo, so it sounded like a good town name at the time. (Peel off* the Alexander sign, and you'll find that orginally this frieght house was destined for CHARLOTTE).

CP GELL - Named after our third treasurer, and often electrician and computer technician, Patrick Gell (Pat! Where are you?)

CP MOROW - Named after our second treasurer, and self-proclaimed woodworker (and more recently, part time RIT professor) Hank Morrow.

* Don't actually try to peel off the sign.

More correctly - an RIT CS will-graduate-on-time-no-matter-how-long-it-takes student still (maybe) and full-time RPD and Monroe County sheriff dispatcher

Right! CP Kane was eliminated during the flurry of track rebuilding projects in 2002 after a route change deemed it redundant- not wanting one of our Charter Members to be left out, the area from CP Morrow to the Route 20 bridge in Alexander is Kane's Corners.

Also of note- the passing siding at Brown Street is controlled by two switches- CP KANE is at the east end (closer to High Falls), and CP ROEDER is at the west end (closer to McNeilly Farm & Garden).

The area we have been informally calling "Scudderville" that is below the Alexander scene will be officially labeled as such, thanks to Jessy's suggestion. We'll get a municipal water tower for the area that will have SCUDDERVILLE across the tank as a little wink and a nod to our late advisor, Prof. Jim Scudder.

" CP MOORE, a guide to last minute redneck wiring" The new book by Josh Moore, on shelves January 29. It amazing how just the electrical history of the R&IT is a story of it's own. I can remember a few early morning work sessions with Pat Gell and a voltmeter. When we fianlly removed all of that white/blue/orange wire that came from the endless spool. And the many different stages of advancement to what we have today. Rightfully so they should be honored.
