What type and how much rolling stock and motive power should I bring? For rolling stock, I have both newer and older stuff, although it's mostly post 1970's, and I have an up-to-15-car unit train of John Deere tractors and dozers as well.

Most of it is a little too shiny, but almost all of it has good knuckle couplers and RP25 Nickel Silver wheels.

You're welcome to bring however much you like, but I would suggest you bring your best-running and/or best-looking stuff. There's only so much capacity on both the Free-mo and R&IT layouts, so you're probably better off starting off with good motive power and perhaps a caboose. The tractor train would definitely be cool.

Alexander Wood wrote:Do they need car cards and waybills?
Nope!
Alexander Wood wrote:For motive power, do I need to register the addresses ahead of time?
Nope! We'll get you set up when you get there.

Alexander Wood wrote:Universal or advanced consisting or either?
Regular or extended addresses or either?
Advanced consisting is fine, but you can wait until you get here...you don't need to consist them ahead of time. Either address space is fine.

I know who can run the yard then. :)

Hey if Otto can operate the layout then anyone can do it. :P

Yup, right before Stilson left for California, he installed the Digitrax TROIP option (Trains Over Iinternet Protocol). So late at night, when everyone else is gone, I can remotely operate the railroad from my desktop here at home! It's amazing, you should try it... ;-)

Wait, I want a credentials sig like Roque!

Yes something else you can blame on me.

Or do we now blame Joe since he is the latest member of the Ex-Presidents.

I'll be up Saturday morning, probably around 10.

And no Mike, I don't have any modules. :D

How to tell if Andy has arrived:

1. Otto starts dancing around, waving his arms and calling "ANDY!! ANDY!!!"

2. SuperDave has an angry look on his face after hearing an acronym off of Railroad.net.

3. Half the modern stuff has mysteriously been bought, centered around the NS and CP items. :P

Otto,

That's pretty cool. I have been on the Nauggy a number of times. The motive power situation over there is pretty sad though. Aren't they down to like one loco that doesn't need a major repair?

Matt,

I'll will pick it up pretty quick. Doesn't sound too hard. :D

Mike Roque,

Ok, I'll bring a select few. I might just bring one loco, or do basic consisting, as most of my non-bachman stuff is needing repair or hasn't gotten decoders, and the Bachmans are almost unprogrammable... unless you have a resistor or PowerPax on the CS's programming track. I'll bring the newest part of the tractor train and a couple of other cars.

Or, if it's easier for you or works better with the operating scheme to have me run pooled power and rolling stock, that's fine. It probably has better weathering than my stuff. :) I will use my own throttle, but I do enjoy running other locos and rolling stock.

Is TROIP serious or a joke? Or a made-up name for a real method to interface with the layout remotely? There is a club in new england whose dispater is in Georgia, works on the internet with VOIP. He used to live in the area, now he participates remotely in their operating session. Cool stuff in any case.

I'm late to the party here...

Im the secretary here and here's my story, I came down looking for stuff, Dave was around, he thought I was crasy, and I turned out to be insane.. but it's OK I'm from New Jersey, and they didnt have the heart to get rid of me.. or..... rather..... I tended to stick around.... oh well.. It's been a helluva ride...

It's fun and There'll be something for you to do.. trust me.. there is ALWAYS something to do in RITMRC...

Naugy is actually doing quite well, but since they are a "real railroad" and each loco they keep in service is required to pass a 92-day FRA mandated inspection, they only keep one or two locos active (usually the Alco or the GE)... but more are on the way now that they have nice new SHOP!

http://rmne.org/thomastonshop.htm (Mike and I built this web site for them)

Come on down, we'll tell you all about everything you wanna know.

The TROIP was a joke, I was thinking of VOIP... I think there is a way I could dispatch the R&IT from home via IP connection, but that's beyond my interest right now.

(And Andy, don't be a spaz. Seriously.)

I gotta agree with otto. Stop acting foolish. Act your age on the forums, and you might get some more respect.

It is theoretically possible, but of course then you have problems with derailing and all that wonderful stuff, so somebody would have to be down there anyway. :P

True! I don't think I'd actually want to operate trains from 350 miles away... but it would be cool if I could be the dispatcher and throw switches and line routes while you guys were having an op session!

We were working with a company called Railcomm here in Rochester to do just that... train control over the internet. I think that project has died out. That may be a good program to start back up.
