Discussion relating to the club's permanent HO layout in the Student Alumni Union (Building 4) on the campus of RIT.

R&IT operation rules for new operators

I made operation rules to follow for new operators:

1) PLEASE DON"T run any signals(note to self: that be me)
2) watch your train at all times (note to self: that be me)
3) listen to the despacher & yard master(note to self: that be me)
4) please aline switches back to normal after your done (nof: that be me)
5) know what track you are on in BY and SY (note to self: that be me)
6) NO!!! runaways out of the yards (CSX8888)(note to self: that be me)

You are the new guy. We've been over this several times with you and others. I am glad that you do understand it now. If you are interested in talking about ops, there are others in the club that may be willing to discuss it with you.

thanks otto. I'm asking away too many question in a short period of time. I'm tring learn alot, but it is hard and i wll get use to it i guess.

R&IT RS Superintendent's Addendum:

1) Makes sure that your speed isn't 100mph. You don't need to run 100 mph to do switching in the yard.

2) When we're having an op session, don't be afraid to have the DS repeat the message. Also ask who's trains are ahead and behind you. It sucks when your train winds up ramming someone's train under High Falls.

3)Oh and yes if you're learning something new and you have a whole bunch of questions, just write them down on a piece of paper and list it in one forum maybe titled "questions in general." Too often the moderators wind up having to lock topics simply b/c they went off topic.
