Free-Mo at the Cleveland, OH WGH show?

Postby FreeMo Tim » Mon Aug 11, 2008 5:43 pm

Good evening all,

There is going to be a World's Greatest Hobby event in Cleveland, OH. The dates of the show are March 14 (Sat.) and 15 (Sun.) Setup will be on Friday March 13, 2009. Full details are posted at:
http://www.wghshow.com/2009/layout/09_layout_pak.pdf

Anyone interested in taking part in this event, please reply at
your earliest opportunity. I mentioned the event in the chat session last night and had several people interested. This is
NOT a commitment at this time. Simply "testing the waters" to see if I should request a small space or something larger 8)

Thanks in advance for your time and interest. Hope you can join us!

Regards from Akron, OH.

Just out of curiosity who is thinking about going out from the Rochester area?

I might go if others went.

It'd be interesting to go, although maybe a bit far.

Tim,

I may be able to make it, but I'd likely bring a single module and not a set or series. Working on recruiting a couple others from FLMRC - I'll keep you posted.

Folks,

Do either of these designs look like they'd be fun to operate?

I really like plan F. It has a nice touch to it with some nice size passing sidings and industries. The only thing I would change is turn the Oneida, OH module 180 degrees so the connector track comes from valley yard instead of the staging yard. Also, what is the large black I shape mean on the Oneida module? Looks good!

Hello Matt,

I agree that the Oneida module should be turned 180 degrees to allow better access, IF the run to Carrollton was intended to be as a branch.

As drawn, I intend to operate the section from Moran's staging to Carrollton as a separate railroad with active interchange. This way, someone can take a local from Moran's staging to Carrollton, checking for interchange traffic as they pass Oneida. There are about 7 or 8 industries in Carrollton, so the local can keep themselves busy for a while. Before the local returns to staging, any interchange traffic will be spotted on the interchange track.

Having a place for someone (or 2) to go switch while not impeding mainline traffic flow was a key idea for this design. What do you think about the concept?

BTW, the large "I" shape on Oneida is the outline of a truss bridge that crosses the Sandy Creek. I put that on the module so I could be reminded of where the water was when designing layouts

Please feel free to post further ideas and comments!

Respectfully from Akron, OH

I like them both but am leaning more towards E.

BTW- what module plans/pre-existing idea's/stuff and things did you use for these plans? and when (approx) would you need to know exactly who was bringing what by?

I Should have some more modules I can truck out to Ohio completed soon.

Many thanks
John

I might also have either 8 or 12 feet of straight modules to contribute by that time. That is if I can find some way to transport then and scenery it done, ect. Just something to consider.

Not that I'll be able to come out, but plan "E" looks more interesting to me... I like how the branches come off the main route.
