Gentlemen,
We are at approximately a month before the free-mo meet. This e-mail is very important, as it contains information for you, as well as information you must send to us to help us out with the meet. We need the information regarding Motive Power, Rolling Stock, module industry information as soon as possible. I am establishing a deadline of March 12, 2008 for this information.
For everyone's industrial modules that will be in the March 2008 layout, I need the following information. I have included some examples that may help you understand what the questions mean.
What is the name of your industry?
Where is it located on the module?
What will the industry name be? [slip n slide oil, ADM, Honda]
What type of cars will the above industry receive? [boxcars, tank cars (long), tank cars (short)]
What commodity will the above industry receive? [oil, machinery, corn syrup, coal, etc]
What is the capacity of the above industry? [1 50' car, 3 40' boxcars, etc]
Are there any restrictions for the above industry? [No excess height cars, close clearances, etc]
Are there any special instructions regarding the operation of this industry? [idler car must be used between locomotive and spotted car, no locomotives larger than 4-axle, etc]
If you have a photo of the industry that you will be bringing (aerial or trackside-view), it would be very helpful in planning.
Also, please send us a copy of your track plan in stick-map and employee timetable format, and include any information that may assist in operations. Also, please note what switches are used and where, any other things that we may not know, such as bridges/tunnels/low clearances. Also, note how the turnouts on your module are actuated (tortoises (if decoder-operated, please indicate the decoder address), ground throws, etc).
Now, the rolling stock and motive power information.
If you would like to use your motive power and rolling stock during the operating sessions, please use the linked MS Excel templates. I have taken the liberty of filling in the FIRST line (which is highlighted, and marked EXAMPLE) with some sample information for you to follow.

Note that we would like to use 1970s or newer equipment. Steam equipment will be permitted, however please note that we may restrict steam usage for special occasions, such as excursions or such. Also, please specify if you will allow other operators to use your equipment, or are too attached to your equipment to allow others to use. We can also use more and more coal cars, oil tank cars, grain hoppers, boxcars, intermodal equipment.
And for DCC stuff,
If you have extra throttles, boosters, power supplies, radio receivers etc., please e-mail Mike Walsh at
glemike@gmail.com and inform him. It will help to know if you might need a throttle or not. We feel that we may be adequately prepared for powering the layout in terms of command stations and boosters, however, it does not hurt to add to our list of equipment that will be available for powering the layout.
Operations: We will be operating under DCS rules and DTC.
The saturday ops session will begin at 12:00 PM, and run until the ops session has exhausted itself, or until it's time for dinner (we could always return and finish up). We will have an pre-ops meeting at 11:30 in the same location as our free-mo meet.
Again, please send me and/or luther brefo any and all information you have as soon as possible.
Thank you,
Mike Walsh
