I won't be around, sadly.. You can find me in Rock Island, Illinois!

Don't forget about our 2-day train show! We will be here at RIT in full force, with many alumni coming from most corners of the country (yes, now I can officially say this! Chris stilson (CA), Otto Vondrak (NYC-ish), to name a few...

I can't find that hat anywhere. As you can imagine, I'm a bit peeved now. I guess I will have to hunt around for these... a google search yields several results, so it looks like i'll be obtaining a few. They come in handy when I'm at the railroad, as I need both hands to run trains, and poncho's arent exactly comfortable... I'd go without one, but I need it to protect my hearing aids from getting wet. We in the midwest are notorious for downpours, especially at the railroad -- downpours usually START just as we leave the wooded area (most of the mainline is under trees, in a nature preserve)...

I do hope you are motivated by the RIT Model Railroad Club -- but use caution -- the RIT Model Railroad Club should *not* be the only reason you decide to join RIT -- choose a major that suits your satisfaction, your skills, and you will be rewarded with a great experience at RIT!

I myself came into RIT in the wrong program (I discovered this quickly after I started my first quarter), and after several quarters I wound up in my current program (Computer Integrated Machining Technology [associates degree] and Manufacturing Engineering Technology [bachelors]) and have made myself happy in that I understand the material, do the work well, and take care of my time so that I have time to spend in RITMRC, as well as other activities (railfanning, helping at the museum, playing g scales, etc).

While our strongest supporters would probably beat me up, and encourage anyone to come join RITMRC, I just want to make sure that those who are interested in coming to RIT have a reason to come to RIT -- you don't wanna throw your precious money down the drain...

:)

Thanks for the advise Mike. I actually found this club because I was interested in the Mechanical and Industrial Engineering programs at RIT, so I guess it is just a great situation for me.

I would highly recommend checking out the MET (Mechanical Engineering Technology) program here at RIT. I started out in the ME program but transfered to the MET program after a year and a half. I was much happier in the MET program, as it is application based. In other words, it deals more with real world situations and less with theory. I am now a proud MET grad.

Luther - Can you contact Tara to see if we can have access to RITMRC this weekend? Just say we need to show the room to a prospective student. It's worth a shot. :)

Well, I've decided to stay in the Utica area this weekend and come to Rochester next weekend... hopefully with a functioning 1941 chassis. Is anyone else able to meet up with David?

If not... David - Feel free to check out the R&GVRR museum this weekend. You can find directions here: http://www.rgvrrm.org

Also FYI I am planning on being in New York next week. I get in late tomorrow and will be on Seneca Lake with the family all week. I am planning to be in Rochester next Saturday (7/28) and will be leaving on Sunday.

I'm a little late to this one here...

I'm also a Live steamer.. 3/4" scale 2-6-2, 1" maxitrax diesel.. and 1.5" scale mercer built steeple cab undergoing truck work... should be operable again by next week..

Furthermore I might be Joining FLLS in the fall (need someplace to run my stuff) and I've been to thier track. Great bunch of guys.

Anyway like I see everyone else saying, if you're into trains.. RITMRC is the place to be, and as far as your schooling goes (I noticed the ME) dont be afraid to ask myself, (2nd yr. mech. eng. student), or Joe Nugent (MET Alum) or any of us in the programs for advice. Its better to seek advice than not too, and ask Joe, Ive been constantly asking him for advice.

Speaking of which, don't be afraid to contact any of us for any reason, Drop us a line offline and we will be glad to chat.

Anyway..Good luck and choose a place you want to study first, then choose your free time actvities.. Trust us. school comes before RITMRC, not the other way around.

Hi David-

Don't listen to them, dude. The RIT Model Railroad Club should be the ONLY reason you consider RIT. Everything else is just frosting.

That, and garbage plates. And Dinosaur BBQ.

Hopefully you enjoyed your visit, don't know if anyone got to show you around? Maybe you can make another visit- come up for Diesel Days at our museum this August!

Unfortunately I did not get to meet up with any of the club members. But I did manage to find your clubhouse and peek into the very very dark room. You guys have a very nice location.

Anyway, I had a great time at RIT and it will defintely be at or near the top on my list.

Hopefully I will get a chance to meet you guys later.
